Mr Warren Smith

Research Leader Undersea Command and Control, Maritime Division, Australian Defence Science and Technology Group
In 1996, Warren joined the Australian Defence Science and Technology Group at HMAS Stirling (Rockingham, Western Australia) in 1996 as part of a small team tasked with evaluating the sonar performance of the then new to service Collins submarine.  Since then he has had intricate involvement and increasingly senior roles in Collins and more recently Attack submarine combat system evaluation and evolution programs.

Since September 2017, Warren has been the Research Leader of DST's Undersea Command and Control (UCC) branch.  The UCC branch has staff at DST's Edinburgh (Adelaide, South Australia) and HMAS Stirling sites, with a focus on the collection, processing, exploitation and employment of sensors, weapons and tactical information to provide Australia with world-class undersea warfare capabilities. Aligned with this, the UCC branch leads DST's participation in the Australia – USA AN/BYG-1 Submarine Combat Management System and Mk48 Heavy Weight Torpedo collaborative development programs.
